A Wild Rose by Uzma Jafri My rating: 2 of 5 stars The book A Wild Rose caught my attention due to its striking title and beautiful cover page. The description of the book was also alluring, and so I gave it a read. However, I didn't find this book very engrossing or enthralling. The reason being the protagonist, who is emotionally so fragile that I felt at once angry and frustrated on her behavior. I didn't expect this behavior from a successful and vivacious news anchor having beauty, wealth, intellect, supporting family and a true friend. If even after having all this, she gets into such a state of unrest then it is her weakness of character. People survive even the most tragic losses in their lives and she couldn't survive one break-up, and that too from a guy she suspected so much. The author has a great potential but she should have created a stronger protagonist. Moreover, the story starts from her having crush at the handsome Anshuman, travels through FB and mess...

Lincoln the Unknown by Dale Carnegie My rating: 5 of 5 stars Lincoln the Unknown An excellent biography of an extraordinary man, this book kept me captivated for days. I enjoyed it so much that I have have memorized most of it in just one read. Although I am a non-American, I have developed tremendous respect for Abraham Lincoln and his noble deeds for his country. His oratory was splendid and can be read over and over again. The depths of his words come from the deep melancholy that he carried in his heart. I will recommend this book to all! (and I am going to read it again, too !) View all my reviews

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells My rating: 4 of 5 stars The Time Machine by H G Wells is one of the first books of science fiction. The imagination of Wells is extraordinary and he has weaved the story of a time traveler with superb imagery. One gets lost in the vivid picturesque description of the life on earth in 802,701 A.D. In this book, the time-traveler, as the protagonist is referred by, goes to the future and faces strange circumstances and meets two different forms of Human race evolved by then- the small, childlike and elegant Eloi and the nocturnal, ape-like Morlocks. After escaping the carnivorous Morlocks, and a series of interesting events, he finally succeeds to return to his time machine, and traverses through 30 million years in time to see the end of life on earth. Finally, he returns back to earth and tells his story to the narrator. View all my reviews

The Pink Scarecrow by Ankita Srivastava My rating: 3 of 5 stars The Pink Scarecrow I got this book The Pink Scarecrow by Ankita Srivastava as a giveaway from goodreads to review. This is a inspiring story of a young girl who, from a typical Indian girl, becomes a huge sensation by winning Mrs. India pageant. All her elegance, poise, and etiquette are attributed to the training she underwent in the Indian Army, which carved a confident and dignified personality from a shy and timid girl. The good things about the book are- 1.The English is very beautiful and the word used to describe Garvita 'The Pink Scarecrow' is apt. 2.The life of army is described in the book in a glorifying way, making me even more proud of our army and the discipline of the army officers. 3.The moral of the story- Chase your dreams with full vigor, and you'll achieve them for sure- is the best thing about the book which I felt. 4.Some poems and songs were very nice. The not-so-good things are- 1.Exc...

Change your life by asserting yourself

To sustain in today's competitive world, one must be an assertive and social person. An assertive person is a person who is able to- communicate himself to others, say 'NO' to unpleasant or unjustified demands/requests, complement others, take risks without fear, and give and take fair criticism. An unassertive person can be of two types- Passive or Aggressive. A passive person has a tendency to bottle up his feelings. He is reluctant to put forth his ideas as he feels that his ideas will be rejected straightaway. On the other hand, an aggressive person has a tendency to fight aggressively to establish his ideology. He gets angry very easily and cannot take criticism easily. Such behavior leads to ugly fights and later on, the person himself feels guilty for his deeds-"I never meant that, I don't know what made me say that." An assertive person, however, does not employ any of these two responses- Flight (passivity) or Fight (aggression)...
